PEMA
The PEMA State Emergency Operations Center is a 145,000-square-foot facility designed to operate and handle a variety of Pennsylvania’s emergency response functions. The SEOC ensures continuous power, communication, and secure operations to provide uninterrupted support for emergency and disaster responses in the state of Pennsylvania. Within the building is a Tier 3 data center, media briefing space, training facilities, and protected storage for PEMA operations vehicles.
The facility also serves as home for several partner organizations such as the Office of the State Fair and PennDOT Traffic Management. Designs were completed under the sustainability guidelines set out by the US Green Building Council’s LEED certification process, with LEED certification being a major goal for PEMA.
Challenge
With this being a new-build multi-purpose facility, with a variety of systems that must remain functional under any circumstances, the team had to make sure everything was installed with the utmost care. Emergency service operations like PEMA’s kept safety and dependability at the forefront of every aspect of this build.

Solution
With the need for such large-scale and dependable systems on a ground up build. MYCO meticulously laid out systems using 3D models and drawings to ensure safe and efficient on-site installation. Intricate applications of sheet metal along with hydronic and refrigeration piping were required to provide the required services to the new building.
Those crucial systems required carefully selected equipment such as custom air handlers, chillers, cooling towers, and Critical Room Air Conditioners (CRAC units). The project’s minimal lay-down area required strategic planning for equipment release to be consistent with the projects schedule.

Sucessful Outcome
Ultimately, this facility came together to provide a massive safeguard and support to the people of Pennsylvania as PEMA has a highly dependable emergency response facility that’s built to handle anything. These safeguards, as well as the support to PEMA’s partnering organizations, stand to show the value of MYCO’s execution. Work that plays a pivotal role in the communities it exists within is paramount to MYCO’s portfolio and the success of these projects provides safety, security, and comfort to the people of Pennsylvania.
