Ball Corporation Manufacturing Center
The Colorado based Ball Corporation’s Pittston, PA facility is a state-of-the art manufacturing plant focused on the production of aluminum beverage packaging. The project was a significant undertaking, as MYCO handled all of the ductwork and HVAC equipment, regulating and controlling air exchange and cooling through the whole facility, as well as plumbing functions including large scale underground work.
Challenge
As a newly built facility with complex systems throughout the interior, exterior, and underground of the building, teams had to work diligently to maneuver layouts, logistical measures, and coordination with other contractors on site.
The scale of the building called for extensive duct work installation which can be materially and logistically challenging to pull off effectively.
Solution
MYCO’s Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) team took 3D scans from inside the building and from the rooftop to coordinate underground and materials that went through to the roof. This allowed for systems and materials to be carefully laid out pre-installation. This approach allowed for easy collaboration between MYCO, the designer, and other contractors. It also gave a concise roadmap of functions and applications that allowed for a smooth installation process once construction began.

MYCO’s prefabrication team also assembled extensive mechanical piping and duct to maneuver challenging on-site installation. This, in turn, created a safer environment and easier assembly on-site all while adding layers of quality control. The prefabrication team was also able to utilize one of MYCO’s additional storage facilities to house large materials as they awaited installation, this eased the coordination process for materials and made for a faster installation process.
Sucessful Outcome
The facility came together excellently and is a standout feature of the local economy. This project was a major steppingstone in MYCO’s advancement in cutting-edge technology as the digital coordination efforts utilized streamlined coordination and construction processes. This was the benchmark for the revamping of MYCO’s technological systems through projects with the hopes of streamlining communication, making installation more efficient, and giving teams tools to create an all-around safer working environment.
